Spring Break and More!

This school year has flown by. I really cannot believe that it's Spring Break already. The weather is turning out to be beautiful and the kids haven't killed each other yet. What more can I ask for?? Today I took the boys to see "How to Train Your Dragon" in 3D. Awesome movie! If you haven't seen it, you must go. Whether you have children or not doesn't really matter. I enjoyed it much more then I thought I would....2 thumbs up!!

So, I am officially old. How do I know this? My gallbladder told me. That's right folks, getting my gallbladder removed this Friday. I swear I can't catch a break this year. On top of that, last week I tripped over my pj's (yes, I haven't outgrown my gracefulness) and tore the tendons in my right knee. Does it get any better? But wait, there's more...I have kidney stones happening right now too. I swear, they just need to build a wing at Aultman Hospital just for me. Either that or hook me up to a constant IV of morphine. It has been one of those years. As I lose weight I'm really hoping that all these medical issues will go bye-bye. It's a lot to handle all at once.

I guess this is it for now. I'm going to go ice my knee but first I need to switch laundry loads. A mother's work is never done...regardless of the newest injury!

Puppies, Puppies and more Puppies

What has been going on in the Philpott house lately? Crazyness, that is for sure. Daphne had puppies and they are now over 6 weeks old. One of them (the runt) is now living with my in-laws and I know that she will be spoiled beyond belief. One of them is going to my friends house as soon as she gets home from Chicago and we are keeping one. Yes, we now have 3 dogs...and we named her Lily. She is such a sweetheart and I couldn't resist. But we have a dilema, we have two puppies that need homes, one male and one female. We cannot keep them - first of all my husband would kill me and second of all I'm pretty sure I don't have the patience for 5 dogs. When you have more pets then humans in your house you need to stop and think. The pups are running around the house and Shaggy hates them. Every time one gets near him he starts growling and I'm seriously afraid that he will nip at one of them at any given moment. I guess what I am saying is, if you are reading this and you want a puppy and you promise to love it, care for it and play with it like you should, please contact me. I do not want to give them to the Humane Society so if it comes down to it they will stay here with us. And yes, for all those out there that are cussing me out right now because I never got my dog "fixed" I hear you loud and clear and I do not need a lecture. Daphne will be taken care of so this is our one and only liter. On the note I better get going....I see a little piece of chocolate on the floor that I need to pick up....oops, that isn't chocolate after all.

Til next time....

It's Been Way to Long!

It has been forever. There is actually a good reason for that. Work was really slow for my husband recently, so we cut out a lot of unnecessary items as far as bills are concerned. Unfortunately, the internet was one of them. But now we are up and running and I couldn't be happier. I will be updating this as often as I can. I enjoy writing about my life/family and I am seriously considering writing a book about being the mother of two boys and the wife to an amazing man.

Sooo much has happened since I have last posted. The craziest (and most fun) is that our dog Daphne has had puppies!! She delivered 5 beautiful, healthy puppies about 4 weeks ago. 4 girls and 1 boy...finally I am no longer out numbered due to testerone in this family. I love and adore them all and of course we need to find homes for them. We have 2 going to great homes but 3 more to go. I secretly want to keep them, but thinking my husband isn't going to like having 5 dogs around. Hoping that it all works out and the pups go to loving homes (psst, if not, they are staying here with us!) We are in the process of wheaning them off of Daphne and have started feeding them puppy chow. We add water to it, microwave it, then mush it down so it is easier for them to eat. They love it, but I don't know if they are actually eating it...seems to be an awful lot of puppy food on their feet when they are finished. One of them jumped right into the bowl!! So funny!! Like I said, I adore them! Dylan likes them too. One day a puppy pooped on the floor and I asked Dylan to please clean it up. He said "No problem mom, even their poop is cute!" I about fell over! Not sure if he will feel that way as they get bigger, but for now, I am taking advantage of it.

Ethan celebrated his 5th birthday on February 12th. Yes, I said 5....going on 15. He already has a bit of an attitude. I find it charming sometimes, but for the most part, not so much. He can be very stubborn, but he is also one of the most loving, caring little guy you will ever meet. He has lots of friends at school and he loves everyone. He informed me the other day that he loves me a lot. I told him that I loved him too and he said "No mommy, I love you more then cookies!" Now that is true love! My 5 year old son loves me more then cookies...what can be better then that??

Dylan also celebrated a birthday since the last time I blogged. He turned 7 on October 29th. We had about 12 boys over to celebrate with pizza, cake and ice cream. We played games and about 5 of those boys spent the night. Everyone had tons of fun and I think it's a birthday that Dylan won't soon forget!! He has grown up so much. He is so mature, has a great sense of humor and really smart. His parent-teacher conference went really well and he is consistently getting A's on his spelling and math tests. I'm not sure where the brains came from, but I will take it!!

I'm sure there is much more that I can write about it, but for now I'm calling it a day. I need to get things done around the house before the chaos of the school week begins. Have a great night and please, drop me a line letting me know that someone actually reads this thing!! xoxo - Em

Random Updates

Yes, I know that again, it's been awhile.

Here are some random updates about what's been happening in the Philpott Household. First I have to say that I couldn't sleep at all last night, so I'm typing this on 3 hours of sleep...definitely not even close to enough for me. I am on my 3rd cup of coffee this morning, so I hope I make some sense, if not, I apologize in advance.

This summer has flown by. It's been a fabulous one though. Let's see, my good friends Karen and Scott were married and I was the matron-of-honor. The wedding was beautiful, the bride was gorgeous and a good time was had! The only thing was that I fell down the porch about 2 weeks before the wedding and bruised up my leg pretty bad. Then the next day I fell over a toy in the driveway and hurt the same leg even worse. I walked down the aisle the best I could without the crutches.

About the whole leg thing...the day I fell over the toy in the driveway was also our 8 year wedding anniversary. My leg and ankle were swolled pretty bad so I called Jeromy and he came and took me to the emergency room. It wasn't broken (though to this day I feel like I chipped a bone because it's still swollen) but I felt bad that we spent our anniversary at Aultman Hospital. I guess that is definitely one anniversary we will never forget!

We went to North Myrtle Beach on vacation this summer. Can I just say this? I love the beach. To me, this is no better vacation then sitting on the beach, listening to the waves, playing in the ocean, collecting sea shells, and boogie boarding. Yes, you read that right, I got my fat butt on a boogie board. So much fun! I was obsessed with it. I want to get my own board for next year. We went with my sister-in-law and my nephews and niece, my nephews girlfriend Amy and Melissa (my sister-in-laws) niece from her side of the family Hayley. Then my brother-in-law Joe, the one that is in Iraq as I type this, was still in Wisconsin when we were in Myrtle. I don't know how he did it, but he managed to get 4 days off and spend some of our vacation with us. It was really nice to see him. Now he's officially in Iraq and it will be awhile before we can meet up again, but Myrtle was fun! Back to boogie boarding, my nephews are extremely athletic. Cole, (he's 12) and I went out to the ocean together. I used Cody's (my other nephew, he's soon to be 16) board and Cole taught me how to boogie board. I seriously didn't think I'd be able to do it. But it didn't take long til I was riding the waves right along with him. I LOVED IT! Cole was laughing at his old auntie, probably cause I looked like a fool, but we had a great time together. Thanks Cole, for showing this old dog new tricks! Dylan and Ethan absolutely loved the ocean too. Oh and so did Jeromy. I grew up going to Myrtle every summer, but Jeromy and the boys have never been to the ocean. We couldn't get the boys out of it....they loved it so much! Jeromy loved it too. Cole taught him how to boogie board also. Jeromy was doing really well with it. We bought the boys there own boards and they were doing it too! Our condo had a pool, so we spent some time there also. Both the boys were swimming in 8 feet deep water. This is a huge accomplishment seeing as how I have signed them both up for swim lessons and they both cried the whole time cause they were so "scared." They weren't scared at the beach! I'm signing them up again...it's important for them to know how to swim. All in all it was a fabulous vacation and I can't wait to go back next year!

This Saturday is the HOF Parade. I don't know who is looking forward to that more, me or the kids. Unfortunately we won't have pics to post here because due to some miscommunication at the Ripley's Aquarium in Myrtle, our camera has been lost/stolen. We will get a new one, eventually, but it makes me mad that we have no pics from our first beach vacation.

Well, I need to go and wake up Jeromy for work. Hope this finds everyone well! Have a good weekend!

Way to long

I would like to apologize for not posting anything for awhile. It's been busy around here and I let time get away from me. After my cousin and his wife mentioned to me that I need to start blogging again, it was nice to hear that people actually read this. I'm never sure....so I will be more diligent about updating this...thanks Jason and Nikki!

So much has happened since I've last posted. Let's see what I can actually remember here. School is out for the summer! Dylan is now considered to be in first grade (which completely blows my mind) and Ethan has one more year of preschool before he enters kindergarten. My babies are growing up. Dylan is psyched to go to school with "big kids." I'm not so excited about it....but I gotta cut the strings sometime I guess.

Dylan played two sports lately, soccer and baseball. Let me tell you, and I'm not saying this as just his mother, but that boy can play. He is amazing! A great athlete all around. He truly excels in soccer and he enjoys both. Near the end of the baseball season he was getting really good at that also. I enjoyed yelling for him! Yes, I'm one of those "loud moms" but thats my right isn't it? I gave birth to him, I can yell for him as loud as I want! Both seasons are over for now, but Dylan can't wait for the next season to start.

Ethan wants to play both also so I will be signing him up as soon as he is old enough. I love that the boys enjoy sports.

My brother-in-law Joe, Jeromy's brother, is being deported to Iraq. He is in Wisconsin now for training, but come August he will be in Iraq. Jeromy and I had a big party for him here at our home. We had about 100 people here and tons of fun! We did a pig roast, everyone brought food, lots of beer and wine was consumed, corn hole was played...good times! It was almost bitter sweet. The following week Jeromy and I attended his Call to Duty Ceremony and I was never so humbled about anything before. It was the most amazing thing ever. There are 175 soldiers that are being deployed with him and the whole church was packed. As you walked in they had every news station there interviewing different soldiers and family members. You received a program explaining what was going to be happening during the ceremony, then you were given a flag. I have never seen so much red, white and blue in my life. I saw soldiers crying...pregnant women crying, knowing that their husbands weren't going to be with them during delivery...I saw kids crying and parents crying. I guess what I am saying is, there wasn't a dry eye anywhere. These men and women are going to fight for our freedom and I don't take that lightly. It's good to see that others don't take it lightly either. I'm proud to be an American and I'm so very proud of my brother-in-law. I love him truly and I pray daily for his safe return to our family.

That's all I'm going to post for now as I'm getting teary eyed. There is so much to talk about and you can be sure that I will do a better job of posting in the future!

Love to all! =)

Plain Local School District

Today is the day that Plain Local has been working toward for the past 3 months (if not more.) Today is the day the Plain Twp community will vote on Issue 14. This is an operating levy for the school district. We have not had an operating levy pass since 1996, so it is WAY over due. I am on the Keep Plain Proud Committee and let me tell you, this committee has been working nonstop to get the word out about the importance of this levy. We have gone door to door, made endless phone calls, worked at school functions, painted cars....and so much more. The one thing I heard over and over again when I made calls was that it wasn't "for the kids" it was for the teacher's wages. My response to that (I actually didn't say this, but I so wanted to) is so what? I want the people that are teaching our children to make a good living. I want them to know that we love and support our school district. Our teachers have not received a raise in over 3 years. They asked for a wage freeze to help out the school district. I find that amazing and I completely respect them for making that decision. In my humble opinion being a teacher has got to be one of the hardest professions ever. It takes a very special person to get up every morning and walk into the classroom with a smile on their face, school lessons planned and ready for the day. I don't care what grade is being taught, kids are difficult. And I only have two of them!! Our teachers and staff DESERVE a raise. Yes, times are tough, trust me our family knows first hand...but at the risk of sounding like a Hallmark card, our kids are the future of America. They deserve all the opportunities that come their way. Don't you think it's selfish to vote no on this issue? I hope that tomorrow I can post here that our community came together and a big YES is what you will hear! Til then....
